According to Amac News: Dr. Sultan Al-Jaber, Minister of Industry and Advanced Technology and President of COP28, at the 8th Ministerial Summit on Climate Action (MoCA), asked all stakeholders to create a spirit of solidarity.
Continuing his speech, he added that this approach helped to reach not only the consensus of the United Arab Emirates, but now brings real results and "facts on the ground".
PetroChina, which accounts for 3.5 percent of global oil production, has joined the Oil and Gas Decarbonization Charter (OGDC), which was launched at COP28 to accelerate decarbonization in the sector.
PetroChina joins 52 other companies representing approximately 40% of global oil production in the OGDC – with national oil companies making up more than 60% of signatories, the largest commitment ever to the decarbonization initiative.
OGDC requires industry to be net-zero by 2050 or earlier, to zero methane emissions by 2030, to eliminate conventional flaring by 2030 and to be in line with industry best practices in reducing greenhouse gas emissions. try
He added that the COP presidency troika, which unites COP28 with the COP presidency of Azerbaijan and Brazil, has an important role in maintaining "political momentum".
Every sector must make climate resilience its "guiding principle," the COP28 president said, urging industries to "adopt serious strategies.
Dr El Jaber warned ministers that artificial intelligence (AI) has tremendous potential to impact energy and transport and minimize emissions, but its development will also increase energy demand.
He said the world should look to increase nuclear power, accelerate the licensing of renewable energy projects and modernize grid infrastructure, while recognizing the "transitional role" of natural gas in providing energy access.
The COP28 President reiterated his call for reforming the international financial framework to make climate finance more accessible and affordable and to incentivize private sector investment.
