According to official data, Tesla sales in Germany fell sharply in January, with only 1,277 new Tesla vehicles registered in the month, a 59.5 percent drop compared to the same month in 2024.
Tesla sales sharply decline in Germany
According to Amac News: Based on the international media, Tesla performed well in the German market in 2022 and was the best-selling electric car brand.
However, recent figures show a significant change. The nearly 60 percent drop in sales has pushed Tesla to third place in the market, with its market share falling to less than 10 percent in 2024.
On the other hand, KBA data shows that overall sales of electric cars across all brands increased by 53.5 percent compared to January 2024.
Tesla, like other electric car manufacturers, has suffered a slump in sales in Germany last year, partly due to the removal of government subsidies and a decline in the desire to buy electric cars in Europe. However, no other brand has been hit as hard as Tesla.
Observers have linked Tesla’s problems to CEO Elon Musk’s support for the German far-right party (AfD).
Musk’s endorsement of the AfD last December sparked a backlash. The American billionaire has repeatedly expressed his support for the far-right AfD leader, Alice Wiedel, who is currently in second place in Germany’s federal elections.
