Akinwumi Adesina, the head of the African Development Bank, called for help and urgent measures to prevent the destruction of African countries due to climate change in these countries.
According to Amac News: Adesina requested 277 billion dollars during the spring meetings of the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank to prevent the destruction of African countries due to climate change.
The head of the African Development Bank said that the devastating and ongoing drought in several parts of the African continent has caused the people of these countries to need support and quick financing.
According to Adesina: "9 African countries are among the 10 most vulnerable countries in the world to climate change. He further added: "Africa is not getting what it needs to adapt to climate change. "Africa only receives $30 billion a year for climate adaptation, when it needs $277 billion a year."
The spring meetings of the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank were hosted by the British Deputy Foreign Secretary and Secretary of State for Development and African Affairs, Andrew Mitchell, and the German Minister for Economic Cooperation and Development.
In this meeting, the necessity of participation and cooperation to provide climate financial resources to countries in need, creating capacity for better use of budget, developing bank projects and supporting farmers was emphasized.
