The US National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration added that the severe geomagnetic storm continues and there are initial reports of power grid disruptions, disruption of high-frequency communications and global positioning systems.
In the same case, the Federal Emergency Management Agency announced that so far no FEMA region has reported a significant impact from the storm.

A severe geomagnetic storm in 2003 knocked out power in Sweden and damaged power transformers in South Africa.
According to NOAA, even when a storm is over, signals between GPS satellites and ground receivers can be scrambled or lost.
