According to Amac News, the ministry wrote in a press release on Sunday, March 2, that in this meeting they discussed and exchanged views on the implementation of previous commitments between the two countries.
In this meeting, the parties discussed Uzbek investment in Afghanistan in various sectors, including the establishment of an economic and commercial complex in the port town of Hairatan in northern Afghanistan, food production and processing, poultry farming, pharmaceutical industries, and cement production.
The press release stated: Uzbek investment in various sectors in Afghanistan, such as the establishment of an economic-commercial complex in the border town of Hairatan, food production and processing, poultry farming, pharmaceutical industries, cement production, construction materials, horticulture including the cultivation of pistachio orchards and vegetable and fruit processing with an initial value of more than 200 million US dollars in the provinces of Balkh, Samangan and Kunduz, were discussed at the meeting.
According to the press release of the Afghan Ministry of Industry and Commerce, holding a regional exhibition in the city of Termez, establishing chambers of commerce in both countries, customs cooperation, cooperation in agriculture, facilitating the issuance of long-term business visas for businessmen from both countries, and establishing a joint committee to address problems were other topics raised at the meeting.
Delegations from the private sectors of Afghanistan and Uzbekistan were also present at the meeting.
It is worth mentioning that on February 4, the economic delegation of the caretaker government of Afghanistan, led by Abdul Ghani Baradar, the Taliban’s Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs, went to Uzbekistan for a two-day visit. The purpose of this visit was to develop political, economic, trade and transit relations between Afghanistan and Uzbekistan and attract investment from various sectors in Afghanistan.
